APRIL 15-17, 2005 WASHINGTON, DC

Friday, April 15, noon-1:00pm – ACTION AT THE MEETING OF THE G-7!

US Treasury, 15th and Pennsylvania NW

The Group of 7 countries’ Finance Ministers meeting on April 15 will decide whether to cancel the debt for the world’s poorest countries. Debt cancellation is absolutely critical to the survival of millions of people throughout the world. On this historic day we will stand with the people of the Global South to demand 100% debt cancellation for all poor countries with no harmful conditions!

Join our inspection team as they issue a notice to the G-7 that the system they control is structurally unsound, and that they have 24 hours to cancel the debt and start building a structure that can truly eradicate poverty.

Friday, April 15, 6:30-8:30pm – LOCAL TO LOCAL CONNECTIONS: LINKING COMMUNITY ISSUES GLOBALLY
St. Stephen’s Church, 16th and Newton NW

The issues we face here in DC are the same issues people are struggling with all over the world: Gentrification and displacement – Affordable housing – Forced immigration – Workers’ rights – Access to public healthcare and education – Privatization of public services. Come take part in an evening of dialogue among DC residents and organizers from Latin America, Africa and Asia. Join us in sharing struggles, ideas and solidarity as we find our common ground!

Saturday, April 16 – ACTION AT THE MEETINGS OF THE IMF AND WORLD BANK!
Noon rally at Murrow Park, 18th and H Streets NW (across from the World
Bank).

We will gather in front of the World Bank with puppets, banners, and all manner of construction gear to build a better world! The rally will kick off with music and then the inspection team will tell us if the G-7 and World Bank have met our demands. If they haven’t, we will reject their bankrupt model of “development” and symbolically tear down the failed system that they uphold.

At 1:00 we will turn our backs on the G-7, World Bank and IMF and march to Dupont Circle accompanied by puppets and high-energy music. We will march around the circle and will enter Dupont Park.

From 2:00 to 4:00 we will celebrate our vision of a better world with music, poetry and creative education. Come get inspired and have fun!

We have obtained legal permits for the march and the rallies at Murrow Park and Dupont Circle. For a complete description of the march route, go to the Accessibility page.

Sunday, April 17, 2:00-5:00pm – “WE ARE FAMILY” COMMUNITY PROJECT
James Senior Apartments, 1425 N Street NW

The Mobilization for Global Justice strives to connect the relationships between global struggles against neoliberalism and corporate greed and local struggles against the same privatizing, alienating, and destructive policies in our own communities. In that spirit, and in the theme of constructing a better world, join us on April 17th as we work with We Are Family, a local DC community group, to reach out to seniors in the North Capitol and Shaw neighborhoods of DC.

Interested volunteers are invited to gather at 2pm in the community room of the James Senior Apartments, 1425 N Street NW, near the McPherson Square metro. Breakfast foods like bagels, juice, and fruit will be provided. After a brief orientation, teams of volunteers will be sent to visit seniors in the building or in nearby neighborhoods. After two or three visits, the teams will reconvene in the James community room between 4 and 5pm to share their experiences, and pass on any concerns for WAF follow-up.

IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT YOU SIGN UP if you would like to participate, since the number of visits set up will be based on how many volunteers are expected to come. For more information about the project, and to sign up, go to We are Family Community Project.

THE DEADLINE FOR SIGNING UP IS THE NIGHT OF APRIL 15, SO PLEASE SIGN UP ASAP!
